Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

Healing is more than reducing symptoms

It is about creating meaningful, lasting change. Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) combines the therapeutic benefits of ketamine with the guidance of a trained therapist to help individuals access deeper emotional healing, process unresolved trauma, and develop new perspectives that may be difficult to reach through traditional talk therapy alone.

At Mindful Inceptions, KAP is offered in a safe, supportive, and carefully structured environment. Every treatment plan is individualized, with your emotional, physical, and psychological well-being remaining the primary focus throughout the process.

Ketamine is not a “magic cure,” nor is it intended to replace therapy. Instead, it can temporarily increase neuroplasticity~the brain’s ability to form new neural connections~creating a unique opportunity for therapeutic work. During this window, clients often experience increased emotional openness, reduced psychological defenses, and an enhanced ability to explore difficult thoughts, emotions, and memories with greater curiosity and compassion.

KAP may be beneficial for individuals experiencing:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and complex trauma
  • Grief and loss
  • Chronic stress and burnout
  • Obsessive thinking
  • Low self-esteem and negative self-beliefs
  • Life transitions
  • Existential distress
  • Treatment-resistant depression or anxiety
  • Personal growth and self-exploration

Our KAP Program

Our comprehensive Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy program consists of six treatment sessions, each lasting approximately 90 minutes.

Each treatment session is followed by a dedicated 45-minute integration session within 72 hours of your ketamine experience. Research and clinical experience suggest that this integration period is one of the most important aspects of treatment, as it helps transform insights gained during the experience into meaningful and lasting changes in daily life.

Your treatment schedule includes:

  • Comprehensive consultation and preparation
  • Six (6) Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy sessions (90 minutes each)
  • Six (6) Integration sessions (45 minutes each, scheduled within 72 hours following each dosing session)
  • Ongoing treatment planning and progress evaluation
  • Personalized recommendations for continued healing and maintenance

What Happens During a KAP Session?

Before beginning treatment, we complete a comprehensive assessment to determine whether KAP is appropriate for your unique needs. We review your medical history, mental health history, current medications, treatment goals, and collaborate with our prescribing medical provider Dr. Priti Patel.

Preparation sessions focus on helping you understand what to expect, establishing therapeutic goals, developing grounding skills, and answering any questions you may have before your first ketamine session.

During your dosing session, you will relax in a comfortable, calming environment designed to promote safety and healing. Many clients choose to wear an eye mask and listen to specially selected music through headphones to encourage inward reflection and minimize outside distractions. Throughout the experience, your therapist remains present, providing emotional support, monitoring your well-being, and helping you feel safe without directing or interrupting your internal process.

Experiences during ketamine treatment vary from person to person. Some individuals report vivid imagery, enhanced creativity, emotional breakthroughs, profound relaxation, spiritual or existential insights, or new perspectives on longstanding challenges. Others experience a gentle sense of distance from painful memories, allowing them to process difficult experiences with less emotional overwhelm.

There is no “right” way to experience ketamine. Every journey is unique.

Integration: Where Healing Becomes Lasting Change

The ketamine experience itself is only one part of treatment.

The days immediately following a session are often a period of increased openness, reflection, and learning. During your 45-minute integration appointment, we work together to process your experience, explore meaningful insights, connect them to your therapeutic goals, and identify practical ways to apply what you’ve learned to your everyday life.

Integration may include:

  • Processing emotions and experiences
  • Trauma-focused therapy
  • Brainspotting (when clinically appropriate)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills
  • Mindfulness practices
  • Breathwork
  • Guided imagery
  • Journaling
  • Somatic awareness techniques
  • Values clarification
  • Goal setting and behavioral change

These sessions help bridge the gap between insight and transformation.

Creating a Safe and Comfortable Environment

Your comfort and safety are essential throughout the KAP process. Sessions take place in a peaceful, private office designed to support relaxation and healing. Soft lighting, calming music, comfortable seating or reclining, cozy blankets, eye masks, and a tranquil atmosphere help create an environment where you can fully focus on your internal experience.

Throughout each dosing session, your therapist remains present and attentive, ensuring that you feel supported every step of the way.

Is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy Right for You?

KAP is not appropriate for everyone. Prior to beginning treatment, a thorough screening is completed to determine whether ketamine is medically and psychologically appropriate.

Individuals with certain medical conditions, uncontrolled hypertension, active psychosis, or a history of ketamine misuse may not be appropriate candidates. Treatment is also carefully evaluated for individuals with bipolar disorder or other psychiatric conditions in which ketamine may require additional medical oversight. Your prescribing provider and therapist work collaboratively to ensure treatment is both safe and clinically appropriate.

Preparing for Your Session

Prior to your appointment, you will receive detailed preparation instructions. In general, clients should:

  • Arrange transportation to and from the appointment, as driving is not permitted following treatment.
  • Wear comfortable clothing.
  • Avoid alcohol and recreational substances before treatment.
  • Follow medication and fasting instructions provided by your prescribing medical provider.
  • Plan for a quiet, restful remainder of the day following treatment.
